DESCRIPTION:Yves Schoonjans dirigir&aacute\; la charla 'Spatial experiments
of Victor Horta and Henry Van de Velde &ndash\; two masters\, two visions
' en el marco del ramo 'Tecnolog&iacute\;as Digitales de An&aacute\;lisis
Espacial' impartido por Margarita Greene.\nDescripci&oacute\;n de la Expos
ici&oacute\;n_\nHorta and Van de Velde have two quite different visions wi
th an overlapping core. The one is more focused on the city and modernity
in the city\, Van De Velde is more focused on the teluric. Strangely enoug
h it is VDVelde and his teluric vision that will move towards the first Be
lgian modernist architecture\, while Horta will move to art deco-classicis
 m. I would link the architecture to a broader culture and to the start of
modernism in Belgium.\nYves Schoonjans (1960)_\nHe is a Professor in archi
tectural history and &ndash\; theory at the University of Leuven (Departme
nt of Architecture)\, Belgium. He recieved a master of science in architec
tural engineering at the University Ghent (1984). From 1985 till 1995 he h
ad a private architectural practice with Gilles Van Bogaert. In his PhD-st
udy (An 19th century eclectic discourse &ndash\; social and architectural
strategies to cope with abundance and diversity &ndash\; University Ghent\
, Belgium) he tackles the way how the theoretical discourse on eclecticism
is constructed.\nThe research is focused in two intermingled lines. (1) T
 he first line researches the &lsquo\;mechanisms on theory-building&rsquo\;
with a special attentiveness to the relation between theory and daily pra
ctice and the development of (ideological) discourses. In the research-met
hodology the focus is beside pure text also on other media and expression
 as images\, construct of journals\, manuals\, artefacts\, ... and their in
terrelations. Architecture is tackled as a wide cultural phenomenon and it
s relation to ideas\, discourses and practices. (2) The second research li
ne is closely linked to the first and brings it towards &lsquo\;modest her
itage and local identities&rsquo\;. Heritage is seen here as what we inher
it\, or\, the built that is constructing the city. Also here the emphasis
is laid on the development of informal and local discourses. Local identit
ies play an important part towards understanding the existing fabric and t
he way it is appropriated\, towards the use of collective spaces and susta
inable urban development\, interactive regeneration and adaptive re-use. H
e was involved as partner and lead-coordinator in different international
programs (Erasmus\, Mundus and ALFA) and participated in different project
\, especially in Latin America.\nWithin the academic management he was Hea
 d of the education-section &lsquo\;History and Theory&rsquo\; from 2002 to
2008\, program director of the International Master of Architecture &lsqu
o\;Urban Cultures-Urban Project&rsquo\; and the International Master of Ar
 chitecture &lsquo\;Sustainable Architecture&rsquo\; (2008-2010)\, member o
f the board and as such director of master-programs (2009-2013). From Octo
ber 2013 he became vice-dean Internationalisation and vice-chair of the Re
 search Department.\nFecha: Jueves 15 de marzo a las 18.00 hrs.\nLugar: Sal
